What usually happens is that you put together the craft, send it back for approval, and you are told it is not up to standard. So now you are out your initial fee.

The difference between these legitimate jobs and the work at home scams is that the company will usually offer you feedback and allow you to fix the problem. They will also have customer support, use quality supplies, and even have money back guarantees. The business will usually have been in operation for a long time and have an established operating history.

Pyramid Schemes - Remember those chain letters that told you to put money in an envelope and send it to the person at the top if the list then add your name to the bottom. The best strategy is to try to avoid mistakes as much as possible and make sure to continually revise what you are doing and stick with what works. 1. Your Own Domain Name.
Make sure you have a legitimate domain name for your website. It is best to set up your own site then add links to any business you may have. Affiliate links are considered duplicates by search engines and your site will not be listed on their searches. Regular domains are also easier to remember and make your site appear more professional and authentic.

2. Your Own Website.
It is easy to set up a webpage these days even for the novice. Most website hosting packages come with website editing software, either at no cost or for a low price. You can add text, links and banners to give it a professional look. You will also want to make sure that your site is search engine friendly. The best way to establish that is to have useful content that will be of value to your visitors. Also make sure to have a webpage title that describes your site accurately and contains the major key words listed on you site. Meta tags are also very important, and will help make you site searchable. Most editing software will allow you to ad these components.

3. Advertising.
After building your website you will want to attract visitors. The fastest way is to place paid ads in news papers or online. There are several ways to establish links to you site, but it usually does take some time. An easy way is to setup blogs with some of the major blogging sites like Myspace, WordPress and Blogger. You can set a blog very easily and talk about your business and how it will benefit your customers. You can add weekly updates, new product info, or just keep everyone informed about how your business is progressing. Since search engines will pickup most major blogs these days, you should include your sigfile (signature file) at the end of your blog. Make sure it contains your website’s URL to get traffic and improve your page rank.

In addition to blogs you can also write business articles like the one you are reading now and publish it to the many ezine article websites. You can also write press releases and have them published to the major distribution sites in the same manor. Business forums are also a great place to learn and get traffic to your website. It is advisable as well to use your sigfile when you contribute to these forums. Also make sure to read all the forum rules and contribute effectively without spamming.

7. Building the List.
Building a prospect list is a major part of growing your business. It is a known fact that most successful internet marketers maintain a list of people that signup to receive information and offers from them. There are many autoresponder subscription services that allow you to build and maintain your list online. AWeber and Response Magic are popular ones that allow you to install an email capture page on your website to have your customers fill out and request more information. Recurring newsletters and product offers will bring you long term business.

8. Personal Contact and Follow up.
Just like any business, the personal aspect is of great importance. You must seek to maintain contact with your business prospects and not rely on the automation part of the business to take over. You always need to gain their trust and let them know that there is an actual person or people doing the business. You can establish that by phone, email, your blog updates or any means that you choose as long as you maintain a personal trust aspect between yourself and your customers.

9. New Trends and Technologies.
Keep an eye out for new trends and technologies in the marketplace. There was a time when email and computers did not exist. Look how things are continuously changing and a lot of new products and improvements will always become available. Video marketing continues to grow as the number of people using the video hosting sites such as Youtube and Ifilm continue to increase. Podcasting is also relatively new on the market and more people are becoming users of the technology every day. Marketers that adapt and ride the new trends usually have leverage over the late adopters! So keep your eyes open.

Many people have grown weary after trying many Data Entry programs only to have lost their time and money. It is very easy to get scammed on the Internet now days. Whenever there is a lot of people that are making money, the old scammers will come to get their share.

It is good to see people at least trying to do some fundamental research. You can see the phrases being searched for by checking the online search engines. They are phrases such as data entry scams, data entry job scams, data entry online scams and data entry work at home scams.

I have written in many of my articles that research is the key in my opinion. No one has a crystal ball, but with the proper research you can put yourself in the best chance for success. You can’t just join the first program you find that promises you the world, and expect to be successful. You will either have to find a website like mine, but not necessarily mine, that has done some research for you or spend the hours to do the research yourself. It’s that simple, otherwise you can expect to have limited success.

In my research I wanted Data Entry companies that had good, customer support, product, track record of on time payments, step-by-step guidance on how to be successful with their program and a money back guarantee when possible. I also encourage feedback from my customers to ensure that if there is any change I am able to respond quickly.

There is another side to this whole scam thing. Many times people will see the ads, join a program, not do any work and expect to be paid a lot of dollars. It’s simple if you are not prepared to do any work at home, then don’t join, because chances are you are not going to be happy or make any money. The folks that join under these circumstances typically end up quitting and calling the program a scam and move on to lose some money somewhere else. Many times programs are called scams when actually its either someone wanting to get paid for doing nothing or it’s simply not a good fit for that person. That’s why I particularly like the money back guarantee programs, because this minimizes this problem. Sometimes when a company gives the person the refund, it does not help, because the person goes around on forums posting that they have been scammed anyway. Sad!

It’s sad because viable programs get scammed and lumped in with the really bad programs that are out there. There is plenty of the bad ones out there already without anyone adding to the list. You need to either do the research or use a website that has done it already to have a chance for success.

We’re almost at the age of retirement now and thinking what do I want to do when I grow up? Most of us have worked our whole lives for someone else. What do we have to look forward to after working 20 or 30 years with a company — a gold watch?? Is that all there is?
Are our 401K plans what we expected them to be? Did we put enough away on our own to cover our retirement expenses? Do we have to continue to work past the 65 retirement age? Or are we finding ourselves wanting?

Wanting — desiring — needing?? Wanting more time to enjoy the things we never had time for when we were busy working and raising our families. Desiring to travel and experience different cultures in the world or give our full attention to the hobbies that make us feel fulfilled. Needing to feel free and relaxed without going to the “job”. How can I achieve this?

I’m a baby boomer myself. I was tired of working for someone else. Life and setbacks along the way did not afford me the opportunity to put enough away to retire early while I am still healthy and want to play for the next 20 years instead of work. We are living longer and are healthier than the last generation was at 65.

At this age, it is also a time of reflection. Where have I been and where am I going? Have you found yourself asking those same questions? If so, what did you discover about yourself? I was looking for something that would resonate for me. A business that would give me all the attributes that was on my “want” list.

I landed on the personal development business. I felt that this type of business could “kill two birds with one stone”. I could give back by mentoring others achieve their goals and become empowered and could earn a great living doing it. But just as important — I am having a blast doing this. I get to work with my husband and build something together. We talk and share more than we have in years. We have a common goal. We are growing in new ways that I never thought possible. Working a personal development program with your partner is so rewarding. Also the excitement of waking up everyday knowing that I can talk to new people not just about how my life has been changed but about how they want their life to change. What are their dreams about? I see such initial excitement from others about the potential of how a personal development program and business will change their lives. When I first began this business I was so full of hope and excitement that I felt like a little kid going to first grade again. Scared but excited at the same time.

We even get to live our dreams of travel. We are going to Hawaii and Rome for our annual conferences this year. Imagine a large group of people with all the same positive thoughts and energy in one room. It is enlightening to say the least. Wow what a deal!!

I’ll first describe “leading with the product.” When you invite someone to look at your product and then around the same time (that’s a key part of it) tell them they can make money with it, well, I’ve not seen this work well.

In the few prospects I was able to get to talk to me about it, they felt “yucky” that I would be making money off them buying the product. I found a way around this, as part of my own MLM training. This taught me that I don’t discuss buying a product and mention at the same time that they can make money doing what I’m doing.

Here’s how I was able to still promote the business by leading with the product though.

After the person has been a happy customer for a month or more, at the point where they place a second or third order, I ask them if they know anyone who would like to receive the same benefits as they have received. After they’ve given me a referral that wants to buy the product, before I place that referral’s order I will then call my original customer and tell them that I can take them to dinner and thank them for the referral or give them a commission for referring the prospect. I ask them which they prefer. This works the best.

If you’re inviting for your product, find out from your upline a proven way to introduce the product to prospects. If you don’t find a proven way from your upline, you get to create it.

Leading with the business

If you invite your prospect to look at your business you obviously have to tell them what the product is, but do not get heavily into product discussions. I’ve seen many times that the discussion heads into deep ingredient questions. I’ve found that it’s best to keep the product discussion general when you talk to someone about the business.

Let me explain what I mean by general. I will talk about the product trends for the product my company carries; such as supplementation. Something like, “Consumers spent x number of dollars last year buying supplements.” And that’s as deep of a discussion about products that I care to get into when leading with business.

Otherwise it just becomes a Pandora’s Box - one question leads to another…that leads to another. This often starts because people want to try to impress their prospect by using big words to show they’re smart - but all you do is confuse the heck out of them and have them think they have to become a biochemist to succeed.

The above comments also remain throughout all your business activities. I do not recommend you use a website that explains both business and products. If you want to sell a product - have a web page with only that product on it. If that product is within a system of products that belong together it is fine to have the additional products within that system on the page. As an example if you sell weight management and you tell your prospect about the meal replacement shakes and on the same web page you have links to appetite suppressants that is fine - but do not include unrelated products or discussion on the compensation plan.

I remember when I saw my first presentation in network marketing the presenter said, “We show people the business and if they don’t want to be in the business we can get them on the product.” Sounded good to me, I thought and continually attempted to do…but very few times I actually was able to do it the way it was presented to me. So I was not able to create many customers by leading with the business.

That concludes my first answer to leading with product or business. Now let me explain my other answer.

Answer Two

If you’re familiar with my MLM training philosophy you will know that the best answer to whether you lead with product or business has to do with what the prospect needs/wants or doesn’t-want.
This goes along with the qualify step of the Inviting Formula. If when talking with the prospect they have their focus on solving a weight management issue - then you would obviously lead with product - if of course you have a product that solves that problem for them.

If I could summarize each of these MLM training points into one central thought, it would be this: Only lead with what your prospect will buy, and make sure don’t do or say anything that would create a “yucky” situation between you and your prospect.
