5 Terrific Tips To Find Work From Home Jobs

by Linda Jones
Are you one of the thousands of people looking for work from home jobs? You are in good company. People who have lost their jobs in the current economy are turning to working at home to keep their families afloat. Unfortunately, too many Internet scammers are lying in wait to pounce on the naive and unprepared. Follow these five suggestions and avoid being a scammer’s easy prey.

1. Research your options: Research is perhaps the most crucial step you will take in your efforts to find possible work from home jobs. It will also be the most time consuming. But, if you are thorough and keep alert to ideas or people who are trying to take your money, your research will pay off. Check with consumer review websites. Talk to the Better Business Bureau. Search engines are your friend. Dig, dig, dig. Now is the time to find out if the company is legitimate or a fraud.

3. Take off your rose-colored glasses: No two ways about it, working from home takes a lot of work. It takes time, planning and persistence. If you are expecting to make enough money to replace your current day-job income three months from now, you are setting yourself up to be sorely disappointed. The fact is, it is going to take a lot more than three months for you to replace the full-time income from a day job. You need to have realistic expectations to begin with or you are almost guaranteed to fail.

2. Discover What Turns You On: What gets you really excited? What do you get so involved in that hours can pass and you don’t even realize it? Maybe its painting, playing the piano or even writing. Maybe its detailing your car. What you love to do is a huge clue as to what kind of work from home jobs to strongly consider. Do not waste your time chasing after opportunities that are totally at odds with your own interests.

4. Yes, Virginia, you do need a plan: Now is the time to figure out what supplies you will need to start. (Business cards are a must, but get them from a printer, not your ink jet. Inexpensive professional cards are easily found online.) If you have created your own work from home job, you need to decide what your budget will be to get started? Where will you advertise and how much is that going to cost? When are you going to work your business? Set up financial goals to target at the three, six, twelve and twenty-four months points. Make your plan detailed. You will get better results.

5. Patience is a virtue, gullibility is not: How many times have you heard somebody say, “Don’t give up now! Successful people don’t quit!” That bit if profound advice gets on my nerves. For one thing, successful people are successful because the know when to quit and when to be persistent. They do not keep losing money on a business just because there were told that’s what successful people do. Now, do not get me wrong. You do have to be persistent and patient for more than a couple of months. Work your business for 12 months. Reduce your expenses if you find that you are constantly losing money. Ask yourself if you really need that banner ad on that website. Maybe a smaller ad would do just fine. Continually monitoring the status of your business, and changing directions if need be, will keep you on the road to success.

Finding work from home jobs that suit you may be challenging. You must be dedicated, driven and self-motivated. Do you research, find work that takes advantage of your strengths and minimizes your weaker skills. Make sure to keep your expectations realistic, have a plan, be patient and persistent. Keep these things in mind and you will not end up being played for a fool.
