Very few people make the high income they are promised in this home based business scam.
Become a medical transcriptionist! Make $60,000 per year! Work from home! You have read these ads, and they sound very interesting. But are they real? The truth of the matter is that people advertising these home business
medical billing opportunities are seldom honest about the true income potential.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has indicted several medical billing promoters for falsely representing the income potential as well as failing to provide the pre-investment information as required by federal law. These home business hucksters target people with low incomes and little or no educational background and promise them huge incomes with little work to be done. Unfortunately, many of these low income individuals fall victim to the chicaneries of these crooks.
Once you call the number in the advertisement, the person you speak with will convince you into purchasing the opportunity right away because doctors and other health care professionals are willing to pay big money for the services you provide for them from home. All you have to do is pay for the startup kit which will include instructions on how to start working right away. The kit will include “state-of-the-art” software and a list of potential clients on your area. The kit will cost around $300-$500 and your payment is all you need to embark on your new career as a medical transcriptionist. Such an opportunity brings dollar signs to the eyes of retirees, homemakers, and the disabled looking to earn some extra cash.
What they hide from you is important
The sad truth regarding these home business medical billing scams is that not too many people make any money from this. If they do, the income is not what was promised in the advertisement. Many doctors’ offices process their own medical claims. However, those offices that outsource their medical billing use reputable and established firms and not people working from their kitchen tables. The list of clients provided will perhaps be out-dated and contain a list of physicians who are no longer interested in medical billing services. As for the state-of-the-art software you paid big money for, it will not be the right one used for filing medical claims. If home business seekers were told this upfront, they would not waste their hard earned cash to begin with. Hiding the fact that you can not make any money at this business is what makes promoting home medical billing a scam and a crime. The ones promoting these scams simply want your money.
There are lots of consumer fraud schemes out there. It is up to you, the consumer, to educate yourself to recognize what is and is not legitimate. By doing so, you can minimize becoming a victim to the crime of theft by deception.
