Informtaion returned for “Keyword” search query using SpyFu. (To give you an example of the data you can receive when using one of the keyword phrase tools):
Cost/Click: $0.49 - $1.39 - Tells you the minimum advertisers are bidding for that Keyword Phrase (in our case “Keyword”)
Click/Day: 69.5 - 88 - Approximate amount of clicks that advertisers receive for that keyword phrase per day.
Cost/Day: $34.22 - $130 - Cost per day for that keyword phrase alone.
Advertisers: 5 - Amount of advertisers advertising for that keyword phrase through AdWords.
Search Results: 656,000,000 - The amount of Google Results for that “Keyword” as a search query.
And these are just to name a few. There’s also an “Ads” section, giving you other advertisers’ ad copy on that particular keyword. You can also get spending trends, percent decrease/increase of spending, cost/click, etc. There is so much information contained in this keyword phrase tool it’s unbelieveable. The best part is you can get all the information I mentioned here for FREE. Of course, once you start using this keywrod phrase tool you’ll want to upgrade to ensure you get ALL the info on your keyword phrases.
So how do you use that information?
It’s totally up to you. You’ll develop your own strategy on how to use your keyword phrases all your own. This information only helps point you in the right direction. Usiing “Cost/Click”: this you know is the minimum to your maximun of what you can earn through AdSense using the keyword phrase “keyword”. If you optimize your content/article using “Keyword” (try to keep a 5% density with sounding like your repeating it just to produce results).
Search results: for the keyword phrase “keyword”, in my opinion, I wouldn’t use it since there are too many search results, to list naturally in search engine rankings it would be quite difficult to raise yourself against 656 million other websites, no? So what do you do?
Go back to the search listing for the keyword phrase “Keyword”, on SpyFu and look at the right-hand side under “Competitors Also Bought”. This will give you a heads up of related keyword phrases for “Keyword”. I selected and clicked on “keyword software”. This one seems more appealing, in that the search results are only 7.7 million compared to 656 million for “keyword”. And the CPC (Cost/Click) is still about the same amount $0.51-$1.49. So the keyword phrase “keyword software” would be a better candidate for my content optimization.
Once you’ve created your list of targeted, top-paying keyword phrases, you’re ready to write and promote and EARN. There are billions of billions of keyword phrase variations so there is more than enough for everyone. All you really need is one to start and from there sky’s the limit. We cannot name a web page ‘page01.html’ and expect it to rank well in a search engine. We need to use our keywords, in the page title and appropriately through the page. Ideally it is best to use one keyword per page otherwise the search engines struggle to determine which keyword is the more dominant upon that page.
We no doubt have all discovered a technique on how to find more keywords to develop our own list. As you may or may not now your list of keywords and keyword phrases should vary in their potential from very popular to just a few clicks per day. Allow me to explain further.
If your intended list was 200 keywords, then not all should be very popular. This is because your website initially cannot compete with the top ranked websites. Apart from good search engine optimization, you’ll need longevity and backlinks to help bolster your ranking position. Meanwhile the ‘lower ranked keywords phrases’, generally referred to as ‘long tailed keywords’ stand a better chance of getting your web pages ranked on the first page of Google, Yahoo and MSN.
This ability to rank on the first page of the search engines is down to your research on long tail keywords; it is these that will generate the traffic for your site over the first few months of its existence. Once your site is more established you should be able to get your more popular keywords ranked too.
As I trot around the internet on various forums I notice specifically that many can’t establish a niche to start a website or a home based business, and wonder where to get the inspiration from. Well I find that the inspiration is in the keyword list.
If you take a keyword that has over a million searches a month, the market is obviously buoyant. Perhaps for a newcomer such buoyancy means that it is difficult to get in and compete successfully with the so called BIG boys. But this is where many people fall before they’ve started.
A niche can be found within a niche, we’d call that a sub niche. If for example we looked at a popular niche such as SPORTS CLOTHES but found too many other competitors, we could easily be disinterested from approaching this niche. But if we explored the potential long tail keywords we may find a sub niche such as white sports socks, with 418,000 web pages listed all are actually deep inner pages of a larger site. This could mean that if you started a website called — white-sports-socks.com you could have a potential market already for the waiting.
Plus of course it wouldn’t take much to get your website at the top of the rankings.
In every working day you should allocate 5% to 10% of your time for research and development. It is this time where you can explore the potential of bigger niches. Not necessarily to understand bigger websites, but to understand where there is a lot of internet traffic. Such traffic can be dissected and split into further sub-niches.
It is here where you can expand your internet campaigns, rather than concentrate on trying to attack the major keyword areas.
In conclusion… the main areas to develop a business or diversify and existing business is in the long tail keywords and phrases. Find a major keyword and explore the potential beneath the surface. Some women complain it’s difficult to be taken seriously when you work at home. If you find that family members don’t respect your situation, it’s time to put your foot down.
Or put another way: play the part.
Playing the part means projecting a particular image: look, speak and behave like a pro. In your home office, you’re first and foremost a business worker, wife and mom second. Don’t confuse the ranking.
To look professional, peel off those jogging pants and the oversized T-shirt. You don’t need a stiff suit, stockings and spiked heels. You have every right to dress comfortably in your own home - but don’t be a schlub either.
Next, speak like a professional would. This is a tall order considering it’s easier to scream your lungs out when the children are making too much noise. To avoid these screaming bouts and feelings of resentment, set boundaries at home. If you explain to the children in a nice way that they should not disturb you unless it’s urgent, they will understand and even be sympathetic to your cause.
Examples of Setting Boundaries
1. If you have a home office that is separate from the living room and other common areas, it is easier for the kids to distinguish the yes and no zones. Tell them gently that when you’re in the office, they are not to come in unless it’s necessary. You may want to close the door so the kids are not tempted to invade your working area. If they don’t see you, they will most likely not bother you.
2. If you don’t have a defined work space and you’re working from the garage or a part of the kitchen, tell your kids to respect your working hours. What you can do is set a timer. The timer goes off at the lunch hour which will signal to them that they can be with you during lunch. You set the timer again in the afternoon or early evening. This way, when the timer sounds, they know they can spend time with you.
3. Ideally, you should have your own phone line and computer for your business. If not, tell the kids that they are not to use phone or computer at specific hours. If you can afford it, we strongly recommend that you purchase your own computer which will be used strictly for business and install a dedicated phone line for your exclusive use. It becomes unwieldy when you have teens in the house because they like spending time on the phone.
4. By setting boundaries, you’re asking family members to respect your wishes. Respect, however, goes in both directions. Show them that you also take their interests to heart by not taking any business calls during the family dinner. Be physically and emotionally present 100% for them.
5. When you engage in recreational activities, don’t take along your laptop (unless everyone agrees it’s okay to do so) or check your PDA every hour. When you’re on a brief weekend vacation out of town, don’t run inside an internet
6. If you’re on a date with your spouse, resist the urge to talk about business. Quality time does not mean spicing up your conversations with stories about your clients and their unreasonable demands.
A couple of details worth remembering: don’t spend time chatting on the phone with your friends after you just said you had an urgent deadline. Don’t file your nails, don’t take a snooze in front of your computer and don’t re-touch your makeup.
If your body language doesn’t match your speech, setting boundaries will turn out to be a monumental task.
